In return, the USPS will forward most of your mail \u2014 bills, personal letters, invoices, merchandise \u2014 to your new home for 12 months after the start date you listed in your request. Magazines and newsletters will be forwarded for 60 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"government\">Government agencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the heavy-hitters of any address change list, the ones you absolutely can\u2019t forget. Notify all banks and financial institutions you have accounts with \u2014 it usually only takes a few minutes online \u2014 and while you\u2019re at it, order new checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Banks and investment services<\/li><li>Loan issuers<\/li><li>Credit card companies<\/li><li>Retail credit accounts<\/li><li>Accountant and tax advisors<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-did-you-know\" style=\"color:#4a62e8\"><strong>Did you know?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It generally takes about three days for the USPS to begin forwarding mail to your new address, but they recommend allowing up to two weeks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"utilities\">Utilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re moving long-distance, consider this more of a \u201cwhere to set up new service\u201d section than an address change list. Be sure to switch over your utilities a few days in advance to avoid an electricity-free weekend welcome in your new home.
